memories of the ’80s – Crazy For You by Madonna

Madonna wearing a cross earring and unkempt hair looking towards the cameraPop star Madonna stepped away from her albums to do a song for a film with the single Crazy For You.

Written by John Bettis and John Lind, the song was for the soundtrack of the 1985 film Vision Quest.

The soundtrack was produced by Jon Peters and Peter Guber, who had to convince Madonna’s record company Warner Bros to allow the song to be released as a single, since they felt it would compete with her 1984 album Like a Virgin.

The song was produced by Jellybean Benitez, who was known for his dance-pop songs, and had to channel his efforts into crafting a ballad for the film. It was the first time he ever recorded a song live.

The song was released March 2, 1985 on CBS/Geffen Records, two weeks after the release of the film to the big screen on February 15, 1985.

The song became Madonna’s second number one single on the Billboard Hot 100, hitting the number one spot in May 1985.

Crazy For You expanded Madonna’s song repertoire as she had been known for singing pop songs and not ballads.
