A song that lives forever, especially for sports fan, We Are The Champions by Queen.
The first single from their sixth album News of the World, the song was written by Freddie Mercury, wanting to create a song that got fan reaction during a performance.
The song’s lyrics are simple, a call to those to persevere, to continue and to fight. The B side of the single is the equally memorable We Will Rock You.
Released in October 1977, the song reached number four on the Billboard Hot 100 charts in the US and number two on the UK charts. It went top of the charts in other parts of Europe including Norway, The Netherlands, Ireland, Germany, Austria and Sweden.
The promo music video for the song was the first time Queen invited fans to be a part of the video shoot.
A popular song at the band’s live performance, especially as the final song of a concert, We Are The Champions became the song of the winners in every sport, played as a celebratory anthem, and was the official song of the FIFA World Cup in 1994.
One of the famous versions of the song was when Queen performed the song at Live Aid in 1985.
A mainstay of classic rock radio, the song was analyzed in 2011 by scientists, who said this was the catchiest song in modern pop music history.
