memories of the ’80s – Kiss on my List by Hall & Oates

For duo Daryl Hall and John Oates, their third single became another hot song for them : Kiss on my List from their album Voices.

The song was written by Daryl Hall and Janna Allen, the sister of Hall’s girlfriend to be sung by her. But Hall & Oates manager thought it would be better for the duo, so the twosome produced the song for the Voices album.

The third single released from the album in 1981, Kiss on my List was released on January 24, 1981, and its steady climb led to it hitting number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in April 1981.

The success of the single helped magnify the songwriting and performing skills of Hall & Oates, who went on to dominate pop charts with consequent albums and singles.

Spending three weeks at number one, this song became the duo’s second Hot 100 single and its video was one of the songs played on MTV’s debut day. Listen here to the single.

Despite its success with radio and the MTV generation, there are many that think the lyrics are Kiss on my Lips, instead of Kiss on my List. To this day, the song is used in many stadiums for the Kiss-cam moments.
